QTW 44 - Playback & Audio Problems with QTW 2.0.1 (1-July-95)

Q When there is a visible mouse cursor over the QuickTime movie window (QuickTime for Windows 2.0.1), the playback degrades, and the audio falls out of sync and then begins to stutter horribly. This happens with several different movies, whether they were compressed with the Cinepak codec or Apple's graphic compressor.

A We have not seen this behavior, but the problem is probably in the mouse driver. The GDI system provides time for the mouse driver to update the cursor, and if this is a slow process (using a lot of CPU cycles), movie playback suffers. If you are using a custom cursor, and if it is swapped in and out of memory due to low-memory conditions, this can also cause playback problems.

To troubleshoot, try using a different mouse driver to see if the problem is reproducible (most PC mice work with the Microsoft mouse driver). You may also be able to eliminate the problem by obtaining the latest version of the mouse driver from the manufacturer.
